DESCRIPTION:
Christian Mindfulness Retreat
Mindfulness – a simple awareness within ordinary life of divine presence, here and now. While the term may not be found in our scriptures, the essence of mindfulness is deeply embedded in classic Judeo-Christian spiritual teaching and practice – remembrance of divine constancy; staying awake, or alert to what is really happening; listening deeply – having eyes that see and ears to hear. Throughout his teaching, Jesus invites us into awareness. Again and again, he says: Whoever has ears to listen should pay attention, Mk.4:9. Paul likewise, repeat Jesus’ call to wakefulness in his letters – Roms.13:11; 1 Thess.5:6; 1 Cor.16:13; Acts 20:31; Eph. 6:18; Col.4:2. The Hebrew Scriptures are full of passages that call to mindfulness of God: Be still, and know that I am God, Ps.46:10.
John Wesley said that watchfulness is an “earnest, constant, persevering exercise . . . yea, the mighty exertion of all the affections of the soul that a man is capable of. In all things – whatever you are doing, yet in that, and in all things, watch.” (John Wesley, Explanatory Notes upon the New Testament, 3rd corrected ed., Bristol:Graham and Pine, 1760-62)
There will be daily prayer and meditation that provide the materials, spiritual exercises, and reflection questions to facilitate your encounter with God.

ABOUT THE RETREAT DIRECTOR:
Alfred Quah
Spiritual Director
Alfred Quah works as a full-time ecumenical spiritual director and pastoral counsellor in private practice. He is a member of Spiritual Director International, Evangelical Spiritual Directors Association, as well as Life Direction Singapore and subscribes to their ethical standards and practices. Alfred conducts workshops and retreats both locally as well as overseas.
Alfred holds a Bachelor Degree in Theology (Trinity Theological College, Singapore) and a Master of Arts in Pastoral Counselling (Asbury Theological Seminary, Kentucky, USA). He has undergone a two year Formation Program for Spiritual Director with Life Direction Singapore. He has worked in various capacities in different Churches and Christian organizations for more than 30 years.
